IndiGo Flight Diverted To Hyderabad After Power Bank Catches Fire Mid-Air, All Passengers Safe

An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad on October 11 after a power bank stored in the overhead bin caught fire mid-flight. All passengers and crew members were reported safe.

Visuals from inside the cabin showed passengers and crew working quickly to put out the flames using clothing, bags, and extinguishers before the aircraft landed safely in Hyderabad. IndiGo said cabin crew responded promptly and the situation was brought under control. This was the second such power bank fire incident on an IndiGo flight in 2026, after a similar case in May involving a Hyderabad-Chandigarh flight.

The incidents are a reminder of standard airline safety rules around power banks and lithium batteries: they should be carried in cabin baggage (never checked-in luggage), kept easily accessible, and not left charging unattended in overhead bins or seat pockets during a flight.
