Samsung One UI 9 Rollout: What It Is, Which Phones and How to Update Safely
One UI 9 is Samsung’s newest software update for Galaxy phones and tablets, built on Android 17. Samsung’s newsroom says the official rollout has begun to more Galaxy devices. Here is what you need to know.
What is One UI?
One UI is the software layer that Samsung puts on top of Android. It decides how menus, settings, the camera app and features on your Galaxy look and work. A new number, like 9, brings new features and a new Android version underneath.
Timeline (as reported)
- Stable One UI 9 debuted on 22 July 2026 with the new foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8.
- A beta programme ran for months, first with the Galaxy S26 series and then with more devices such as the Galaxy S25 and Z Fold7 and Z Flip7.
- On 16 September 2026, Samsung’s newsroom announced the official rollout of stable One UI 9 to more Galaxy devices, starting with the Galaxy S26 series. Reports say the global rollout begins on 21 September.
- Timing differs by country, phone model and mobile carrier. Samsung has not given a single date for India, so please check Samsung India’s support pages.
How to update safely
- Open Settings, then Software update, then Download and install.
- Back up your photos, contacts and chats first (Samsung Cloud, Google Drive or Smart Switch).
- Charge the phone above 50 per cent and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Free some storage space. Large updates need several GB.
- Use only the update that appears on your phone. Do not download “One UI 9” files or apps from unknown websites.
If the update has not arrived yet
Rollouts happen in phases, so it can take days or weeks to reach your phone. Waiting is normal. Please do not try to install unofficial versions, which can harm your phone and your data.
