Atal Pension Yojana Gets Extended: Cabinet Approves Continuation Till 2030-31
What the Cabinet Approved
The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), along with an extension of funding support for promotional and developmental activities and gap funding, through to 2030-31.
What Is Atal Pension Yojana
APY is a government-backed pension scheme aimed primarily at workers in the unorganised sector, offering a guaranteed minimum monthly pension after the age of 60, depending on the contribution amount and age at enrolment.
Why the Extension Matters
The continuation ensures that promotional and outreach activities, which help expand enrolment among unorganised-sector workers who often lack access to formal pension coverage, will keep receiving government support for several more years.
Who Should Take Note
Workers without an employer-backed pension plan, particularly those in the unorganised sector aged between 18 and 40, remain eligible to enrol in APY through their bank or post office account.
