Sensex, Nifty Fall for Second Day as Crude Oil Price Worries Investors

Indian benchmark indices fell for a second straight session on 29 September 2026, weighed down by elevated crude oil prices amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

How the market moved

The BSE Sensex slipped 242.65 points, or 0.33%, to close at 72,529.07, while the NSE Nifty 50 ended 64.05 points, or 0.28%, lower at 22,716.20. Market breadth stayed weak through the session, with more stocks declining than advancing on the NSE.

Gainers and losers

Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, SBI, Adani Ports and TCS were among the day’s gainers. Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank and Asian Paints were among the top losers.

FII and DII activity

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹5,353.22 crore on 28 September, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹5,189.02 crore, cushioning some of the fall.
