ISRO’s NVS-03 To Revive NavIC: What The Satellite Does And Why It Matters
ISRO is preparing to launch NVS-03, a navigation satellite meant to restore India’s regional positioning system, NavIC. It is expected to fly on a GSLV Mk II from Sriharikota, but ISRO has not announced an official launch date. Reports have moved the target from September to mid-October and now to late October or November, so treat any single date as unconfirmed.
NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) is India’s own GPS-like system covering India and the region around it. Reports say it currently has only three working satellites, while at least four are needed for a standalone positioning service. NVS-02, launched in January 2025, failed to reach its operational orbit.
