ISRO to Launch NVS-03 Navigation Satellite on 13 October

What’s Being Launched

ISRO is scheduled to launch the NVS-03 satellite, also known as IRNSS-1L, on 13 October aboard a GSLV Mk II rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Why It Matters

NVS-03 is a replacement satellite for India’s Regional Navigation Satellite System, which gives the country its own alternative to GPS for both civilian and military use.

Another Launch on the Calendar

Also planned for October is the first serial flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle, SSLV L1, carrying the AayulSAT-1A payload among others from Sriharikota.

Looking Ahead to Gaganyaan

Later in the year, ISRO is also expected to conduct the Test Vehicle Abort Mission-2, a high-altitude abort test that is part of the preparation for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme.
