EPFO Extends ECR Filing Deadline — What It Means For Employees

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for employers to file the Electronic Challan cum Return (ECR), the monthly statement used to deposit PF contributions for employees. The extension gives employers additional time to reconcile and submit contribution data without incurring late penalties.

For employees, this means PF contribution credit for the relevant month may reflect slightly later than usual in their passbook, since employer filing is what triggers the deposit. It does not affect the contribution amount itself, only the processing timeline.

Employees can check their updated PF balance and passbook directly on the EPFO member portal or via the UMANG app once filings are processed.
