Durga Ashtami And Maha Navami 2026: Dates And Why They Vary By Panchang

Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami 2026 fall around October 18-19, but the exact date depends on which panchang (lunar calendar) is followed, since the Ashtami tithi extends into the following day in some calculations. Most calendars list Durga Ashtami on Sunday, October 18, and Maha Navami on Monday, October 19, while some place Ashtami on the 19th instead.

Sandhi Puja, performed at the junction of Ashtami and Navami tithis, is observed around mid-morning on October 19 in most Bengali calendars, though exact timings vary by location.

Vijayadashami (Dussehra) follows on October 20 in most calendars. As always with tithi-based festivals, check your family’s or local temple’s preferred panchang for the exact date to observe.
