Apple Pay Launches in India: How Families Can Start Using It With Axis Bank Cards
Apple Pay Arrives in India
Apple has officially launched Apple Pay in India, starting with a partnership with Axis Bank. Customers holding eligible Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards can now add their card to the Wallet app and make contactless payments in stores, apps and online.
How It Works
Once a card is added, Apple Pay lets users tap their iPhone or Apple Watch at NFC-enabled payment terminals to pay securely, without entering a PIN or OTP at checkout. The service is also available on iPad, with Mac support expected soon.
What Families Should Know
At launch, Apple Pay works only with supported Axis Bank cards; HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI Card are not yet supported. Families already using UPI for most daily transactions will find Apple Pay useful mainly for card-based payments at NFC terminals, rather than as a replacement for UPI.
Getting Started
To set it up, open the Wallet app on a compatible iPhone, tap the add button, and follow the prompts to verify an eligible Axis Bank card. Once verified, the card can be used immediately at supporting terminals.
