Gemini, Copilot and ChatGPT: A Beginner’s Guide to AI Assistants and Safe Use
You may have heard of Gemini, Copilot and ChatGPT (people also search for “GPT”). They are AI assistants: programs you can chat with to get help with writing, learning and everyday tasks.
What are they?
| Assistant | Made by |
|---|---|
| Gemini | |
| Copilot | Microsoft |
| ChatGPT (built on GPT models) | OpenAI |
What are they good for?
- Explaining a topic in simple words, in English or Hindi.
- Drafting emails, letters and messages that you then check and edit.
- Summarising a long text, or helping you plan a study schedule.
- Brainstorming ideas, such as names, recipes or trip plans.
Rules for safe use
- Never share passwords, OTPs, card numbers, Aadhaar or bank details in a chat.
- Check the facts. AI assistants can sound sure and still be wrong. Verify important answers on official websites.
- Do not depend on them for medical, legal or money decisions. Ask a qualified person.
- Be careful with personal photos and private documents. Read the privacy settings of the app you use.
- Use official apps and websites. Fake “AI apps” can steal data.
- Children: use them together with an adult, and follow each service’s age rules.
How to start
Open the official website or app of the assistant you like, create an account only if you need one, and start with a simple question. Ask it to explain its answer, and always cross-check anything important.
